We can all feel totally wiped out, exhausted & drained in life. Sometimes it comes and goes, but in winter it feels like these emotions truly take over. So, how do we move past them? Here are 12 Self Care tips that will help you let go of stress, step out of the mundane routine of life, connect back to your inner self, find peace & joy, remind yourself of your dreams & passions, and receive some guidance & support through life.

In all honesty I selfishly wanted to put this list together so when I am having a rough day I can remind myself how to get through without pulling my hair out or thinking that my life is over.

We all have those rough days, you know what I’m talking about, those days were out past pops back up and we become fearful, judgemental and stressed to the max about having to relive some of our worst days.

What about worry & doubt for the future? Fear creeps in and we become surrounded by the idea of lack, will we have enough, am I worthy of receiving, I will never get to where I want to go in life.

These thoughts, emotions and ideas become extremely limiting and we start to believe the worst in ourselves and the worst in life.

SOOOO…..

Save this post, come back to it on those difficult days, remind yourself that this is just a moment and it will pass. Cozy up, and dig into this list of self care tips I have to share to help you through this winter season and any times fear, doubt, worry, or exhaustion creep in.

1 have a bath with peppermint oils

First and foremost - give yourself time to RELAX! We become so stressed out with the constant hustle and hurry of our lives that we forget to just be in the moment. Having a bath is not just a superficial way to self care.

Baths are extremely healing, especially when you set the intention to heal, cleanse & clear yourself of any negativity that your body is holding onto. Water is a great healing practice, so draw yourself a nice bath and set those intentions that you are giving yourself time to relax, rest & heal.

Why not add some peppermint essential oils while you’re at it! A great way to relax this winter season.

2 cozy up in robe to meditate

This is perfect to do right after you get out of that bath! But really, anytime is a good time to meditate. Whether you are choosing to listen to a guided meditation to help you release, or you are just practicing quieting the mind through a self-led meditation it is a great way to disconnect from the stress & negative emotions that have you going crazy internally.

Wearing a nice cozy robe to sit down and meditate makes the whole experience that much more enjoyable!

3 needing a release of emotions? Cry it out to a sad movie

Have some negative emotions been building up within you? Listen to yourself and recognize that you are needing to work through those emotions & then release them.

I’ve found a great way to let go is by physically crying it out. I always feel so much better when I allow myself to let it out, rather than bottle it all up within.

Whether you find it easy to cry or not, putting on a sad movie is a great excuse to help you release all that you’ve been holding on to.

4 listen to your inner thoughts & honour yourself through them

One of the worst things we can do to ourselves is ignore our inner thoughts, or put ourselves down for having thought them. Our thoughts are most likely trying to tell us something, so listen. Listen to yourself and be willing to give yourself the time & space to work through those thoughts.

Yes, fear, worry, doubt are included. Listen to when those thoughts come up, why are you feeling this way? Is it just your ego trying to psych you out, or is it something deeper that you need to work through to remind yourself of your worth.

Are you sad or angry because of what someone said or did to you? Maybe it’s time to create boundaries for yourself so you stop allowing those type of people to have power over your inner thoughts.

Giving yourself TIME & SPACE to work through your inner thoughts is honouring yourself, your path and allowing yourself to grow, learn and become better. This is a huge self care tip and it’s especially important in the winter when it’s harder to connect to peace & joy.

5 sit with some energy healing music and surround yourself with some indoor plants

This is a perfect tip for after you have just worked through those inner thoughts, or whenever you are having a moment of feeling less than.

Hop on over to youtube and search energy healing music or Hertz music. Press play and listen.

Maybe you have this music on in the background while you take that bath, or while you journal about your inner thoughts. This type of music works internally with our energy and it will help you to feel more energetically balanced.

While you are at it, surround yourself with some indoor plants. During winter it’s a lot harder for us to connect to the healing energy of nature (unless you live somewhere that doesn’t experience freezing temperatures). Having plants in your home helps to create that healing space we desire.

6 put a crystal under your pillow as you sleep, hold onto a crystal as you drink your morning coffee

Crystals are filled with so many healing properties and each one has a specific energy to it. Carrying crystals with you throughout your day and help to keep you shielded from other people’s negative energy. Putting a crystal under your pillow when you sleep can increase your healing process throughout the night.

Using crystals is a great way to practice self care. Don’t have any crystals? Go to your local spirituality & wellness store and trust your intuition with where you are being guided. Pick up a crystal that is calling to you, then read the healing properties it carries. If it connects to how you feel then it will be a great addition to your spiritual wellness practice!

7 create a weekly checklist of ways to destress & do them

Typically the weekends hold less stress for us as we aren’t working and we find it easier to connect to the things that make us happy. So each weekend write out a weekly checklist of all the ways that help you destress. Each day of the week make sure you are checking off at list one item from your list. Don’t wait until the weekend to destress, make sure it becomes a daily habit to let go of the stress from the day.

8 on sunny days get outside for a walk in nature NO MATTER THE TEMPERATURE

We tend to experience less nice weather days in the winter (at least this is true for Canadians). So, when the sun comes out make sure you get outside to soak it in. No matter what temperature it is outside, because you can always put on more layers to stay warm. But it’s essential for our health & wellness to experience the sun and all the healing properties is has to share.

So get outside and soak up the sun!

9 sit in front of a mirror & stare at yourself - think all the positive thoughts about who you are

We forget to love ourselves regularly. Seeing the greatness you are capable of will help to transition and negative thoughts in the future to something more positive & up-lifting. A great way to practice self care this winter is to sit in front of the mirror and think of all the great things you have to offer the world.

The moment a negative thought comes to your mind say out loud “I am worthy. I am strong. I am capable. I am living my life for me. I choose to support myself through all that I do. I am worthy. I am strong. I am capable. I am living my life for me.”

10 turn the tv off and read a book instead - better yet, make it an empowering personal growth book

Screens take over our life and can be stimulating in the wrong way if we stare for too long. It’s time to pick up a book and give your mind some positive stimulation. If it’s an empowering personal growth book even better!

Throughout the winter we become glued to our screens because we spend less time outside. So give yourself a break from those screens and instead read a book!

11 journal every morning 2 intentions for you to show up in your life that day

We often forget to be present every single day and a great way to change that behaviour is to be intentional about how you are choosing to live life. Set a goal for yourself to journal every morning 2 intentions that will help you to show up and experience the moment as it is happening.

What can your intention look like? I intend to be present in every conversation I have today by truly listening to understand the other person, not just to respond. I intend to take in my surroundings on my walk today by connecting to my breath and noticing the sights & sounds that surround me. I intend to be present with my kids when the ask me to play with them and enjoy the valuable time we have together.

Intentions can be anything, as long as it’s a way for you to connect to the moment and show up in your life each day.

12 fill up your hot water bottle, make a cup of tea & get cozy in order to receive some guidance through an oracle card reading

A beautiful self care practice is by opening yourself to receive guidance & support through Oracle Card Readings. Whether you have a deck yourself or you receive a reading from someone else it’s a great way to connect back to yourself, your life and the messages coming forward from the Divine Universe.

Why not enjoy the experience fully by getting cozy with a hot water bottle and a cup of tea. Don’t allow yourself to just fly by the guidance that is coming forward. Create a sacred space for yourself to sit, take in the messages, and reflect on how you can shift forward in life to better yourself.

Don’t know how to do your own reading? Join my free Facebook group, Shifting Forward, where I post a reading for the group every week on Sundays.
