How to Decipher Your Dreams

When you remember your dream the first thing you think is, “what does my dream mean?”. You begin a journey of exploration in the wild world of the internet trying to figure out the significance of your dream and if it’s a spiritual message, a literal message, or nothing at all.

As a Spiritual Mentor, Author and Intuitive Guide, I love deciphering messages and signs from the Universe and trying to understand what my Spirit already knows. We can receive signs and messages in many different ways and dreams are simply one of the ways your Higher Self is trying to guide you in your healing and growth journey.

So, the question remains…

How do I decipher my dreams?

In this blog I want to share why we have dreams, 2 tips to start remembering your dreams more, and 3 tips to help you decipher your dreams so you can understand the spiritual significance of them.

Why do we have dreams?

When you are asleep it’s a time for your logical mind to rest, which is the best time for your Spirit to truly come alive. Often when we sleep our spirits have been known to astral-travel, connect with other Spirits, and provide clarity through our dreams.

It’s been said that when we first wake up in the morning we are most connected to our Higher Self because through sleeping we have awakened our conscious connection with the Spirit World. In sleeping you can easily raise your vibrational frequency because your logical mind isn’t awake to limit your perception.

So, why do we have dreams? Oftentimes our Spirits are wanting to give us clarity or guidance as to where we are carrying resistance in our lives. Our dreams can tell us many different things, and usually it's the direction to questions we’ve been asking or pointing us towards where we need to up-level and expand.

You have dreams when you sleep because your Spirit knows the limitless capacity to life and wants you to remember your Soul Truths rather than stay limited by the perception of your mind.

2 Tips to Remember Your Dreams

You may easily remember your dreams, or you may be someone who says they never dream, when in reality every single person dreams, it’s only your ability to recall your dreams that leads you to believe you don’t dream.

In order to start remembering your dreams, here are two tips for you to practice every night and morning.

Tip 1 - As you lay in bed each night, set an intention with your consciousness that you wish to dream and remember your dream when you wake up. You can get specific with your intention if you’ve been remembering your dreams for a while, by stating a question or a specific area of your life where you desire clarity.

Tip 2 - Keep a journal close to your bed so upon waking up, even if it’s in the middle of the night, you can write down a couple key points from your dream. It’s easy for us to forget our dreams because we don’t place any significance on them. The moment you start holding your dreams as something important to you, you create space to remember them.

Remembering your dreams and deciphering their meaning is a practice. You may not ask to dream every single night, and even when you do set the intention you may wake up and not know if you dreamed or not. Don’t get discouraged, as you will remember when you are meant to remember. Keep practicing by asking for clarity in your dreams, and write down whatever you remember in the mornings, even if it doesn’t make sense.

3 Tips to Decipher Your Dreams’ Meaning

In order to decipher your dreams and learn their spiritual significance it takes an open mind and an ability to uncover key points and connect the dots where needed. Dreams are not often literal, but they usually point to emotional or mental blocks you are carrying.

Here are three tips to help you decipher the meaning of your dreams.

Tip 1 - The Emotional Response

Usually dreams are trying to invoke an emotional response because as humans this is where we carry a lot of resistance due to past emotional pain, or fear of future emotional pain. We are not typically the best at processing our emotions in a healthy way which can lead to unhealthy patterns and behaviours.

Journal through these questions to gain clarity…

What was my emotional response in the dream if I remember it?

What is my emotional response right now when thinking about the dream?

These emotions are trying to tell you where healing needs to occur in your life. You are harbouring something that needs to be healed and released in order for you to shift forward and grow.

Tip 2 - The Connection

Sometimes in dreams there is a specific person that we connect with in the scenario we dream about. What happens in your dream isn’t necessarily a premonition of something that will happen in your life, but the person you connected with is an important thing to note.

Journal on these questions to gain clarity…

Who was with me in the dream if I remember?

What type of relationship do I have with this person? Healthy? Supportive? Loving? Toxic?

There is a reason why your Spirits came together in the dream and there is something your Higher Self wants you to understand about this connection.

Tip 3 - The Main Takeaway

There is usually something specific that happened in your dream and when you remember it, it's the part that has you questioning things. This main takeaway is representing something else in your life.

Journal on these questions to gain clarity…

What do I feel like this situation is representing in my own life?

If something caught me off guard, what was it and what do I feel like it’s saying?

Is there a deep fear or wound I am carrying that was triggered in this dream?

When journaling it’s important to simply start writing without thinking about the question for several minutes. Grab your pen and let your hand start writing whatever comes, often your Spirit ends up speaking through you in the written word and things will start to make sense.

Once you’ve gained the emotional response, the connection and the main takeaway you can start connecting the dots on your perceived meaning of the dream. Remember, as humans our minds are extremely limiting and we often can’t see things from a full perspective. Your dreams are trying to give you clarity to where you’ve been blocked, how you are resisting something, where you carry fear or where you need to take action for your desires.

Your Spirit wants you to grow beyond the limits you’ve created for yourself and when you decipher the meaning of your dreams you can start to break away from those limits.
