In order to receive tomorrow’s blessings we have to release yesterday’s trash. Releasing is one of the most common topics among spiritual communities, light workers, psychic & mediums, astrologists and anyone awakening on their spiritual journey.
As a Spiritual Mentor & Author I recently wrote an entire guidebook on the topic of releasing. It was created to guide you through the release process and better understand what you need to release in your life. HOWEVER, upon launching this guidebook out into the world I received a ton of questions on “WHAT is releasing and WHY do I need to be doing this practice?”. Here are the most frequently asked questions for releasing energy and emotions. This includes past pain & trauma, emotional blocks, energetic resistance to manifesting, and spiritual attachments.

What does it mean when someone says “old energy is clearing out for the new”?
There is the age old saying for pessimists and opportunists that “you see the glass either half full or half empty”. The idea behind this is the energy you are focused on is either lacking or abundant.
When someone says the old energy is clearing out for the new it’s about shifting from a pessimistic viewpoint to an opportunist one. You are choosing to let go of the energy of lack so you can welcome in the energy of abundance. You cannot experience lack and abundance at the same time. Just like you can't feel energized and drained at the same time.
Whatever type of energy is filling your life right now, needs to be cleared out or released in order for you to bring fresh, new energy into your life. For instance if you are in the energy of stress, you need to find a healthy way to release that stress so you can feel calm and peaceful.
If there is a rainstorm brewing outside, the energy (the rain) needs to be cleared out and released from the clouds before the new energy (the rainbow) can come.
There are so many different ways you can clear out the old energy, but the point behind this statement is that you are choosing to clear it out so you can bring new energy in.
What is the spiritual meaning of release?
The spiritual meaning of release is that you have become energetically attached to something that does not support you or your highest good. You are choosing to release this energy (thought, belief, emotion, pain, habit) in order to bring a new energy into your life.
You need to be willing to let go of something if you want to bring something new into your life. The release can be something physical, emotional, mental, energetic or spiritual. Ultimately, whatever you are releasing, the meaning is to bring you back into alignment with your soul path so you can be the highest good for yourself and the world.
How do you release energy from your body?
There are so many different ways to release energy from your body, but it all starts with authenticity and intentionality. You can release through meditation, journaling, rituals & ceremonies, connecting to the Moon Cycle and so many other ways.
Whatever practice or strategy you are choosing to help you through the release process it’s about being clear on what you are choosing to release, why you are releasing it and honouring yourself each step of the way.

What are different types of energy blocks?
Energy blocks are when you are carrying stagnant energy inside of your body that is blocking you from receiving the new energy you desire. You especially notice energy blocks when you are trying to manifest something and it isn’t coming to fruition.
An energy block can be a belief you carry that has been passed down from the generations before you or from a societal norm. This belief may be limiting you from creating your desires if it is in opposition to what you want.
An energy block can be an emotional trigger you carry based on a past experience you had. This emotional trigger may cause you to react in a situation leading you out of alignment and you don’t even realize the trigger is controlling you.
An energy block can be a repetitive thought you have that creates worry or doubt in your mind. Whenever you are taking action from a state of worry or doubt you are always blocking any positive energy you’re trying to connect to.
An energy block can be a habitual behaviour you have that is always putting your energy into something that does not support you. For instance constant scrolling on social media without purpose can be an energy block.
There are so many different energy blocks that are creating resistance around being able to shift into the life you desire.
Why do I need to move trapped emotions & energy blocks?
The trapped emotions and energy blocks you are carrying are keeping you separated from your soul. Especially when these emotions and energy blocks are connected to your past trauma or pain. These triggers are leading you to live in fear of your safety. When you are constantly in survival mode you cannot make decisions from a soul-led space. You are holding yourself in a state of survival which is blocking you from the thriving state you desire to be in.
By recognizing and releasing these trapped emotions and energy blocks you are able to live in soul alignment and create a life you enjoy. Rather than constantly in fear, stress and worry you are able to live from an uplifting and empowered state!
Is clearing negative energy and releasing the same thing?
Yes, clearing negative energy and releasing is the same thing.
Clearing negative energy is typically focused on the daily stress, tension and emotions you’ve picked up on.
Meanwhile releasing is typically focused on the deeper, shadow wounds, fears, pains, and blocks you carry that control the way you experience life.
Both are important. Both require you to let go of energy that is not supporting you or your highest good.
How do I know when to clear stuck energy?
There is always something that needs to be cleared or released.
Releasing is hard work and it takes a lot of energy from you. Never pressure yourself to release because you think you have to or you should.
Whenever you feel stress, resistance, emotional, or fearful it’s a great sign that there is something that needs to be released.
Doing the release work is simply about allowing the low-vibrational energy to leave your body so you can make space for calm, uplifting energy to move into your being. If you are not feeling calm and uplifted then there may be something that needs to be released.
Take your time in this practice and honour yourself each step of the way.
Life isn’t about only doing the shadow work and releasing all the time. You also deserve to have fun and enjoy life!
