As a Spiritual Mentor & Intuitive Guide, I work directly with the exhausted, emotional and overwhelmed people pleasers, sensitive souls and empaths. I know what it feels like to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders and constantly be trying to bring more peace and love into the lives of the people around you. 

As an empath your gift is your compassion, but without embodying these four lessons you will end up feeling exhausted on a regular basis, close to having emotional breakdowns often, and you will constantly feel worried and afraid for the state of the world.

I will state that this list is not all of the lessons you’ll need to learn as an Empath, they are simply the lessons I believe to be the most important. The process of learning a lesson is not about reading and gaining information then the lesson is learned. Read this blog to understand 3 reasons why you are repeating life lessons

Let’s jump into 4 lessons all empaths need to learn in order to experience peace, purpose and fulfillment as a lifestyle.

1 Observe don’t Absorb

There are going to be many situations you will find yourself in where the emotions and energy that surrounds you is a low vibration. This can include anger, frustration, stress, anxiety, sadness, worry, fear, judgment, gossip, and resentment. Take a moment to think of all the heavy emotions you’ve experienced in your life. When you are aligned with your Spirit you are in a high vibration, which can feel like joy, appreciation, peacefulness, serenity, satisfaction, amusement, fulfillment, and passion. 

The more low vibrational energy that surrounds you on a daily basis, it can infiltrate your energetic aura and lower your own vibration. Empaths are more susceptible to taking on the energy of their environment, because of their ability to understand and feel the emotions of others. 

The lesson to observe and not absorb is as simple as it sounds, although it’s not always easy in practice. As an empath you need to learn how to observe your surroundings, observe the experience other people are having, still offer compassion and support where necessary, except not absorb the energy and emotions. 

When you are able to observe the situation, you are able to stay in an uplifted high vibrational state so you can be of service to the situation, rather than walk away feeling completely drained and exhausted by taking on the pain, stress & anger of the other people. 

After working with one of my 1:1 mentoring clients for 4 months, she shared a recent experience with me explaining that she instantly could see the energy someone in her surroundings was carrying, and she knew how it would affect her if she absorbed it. She set up her energetic boundaries, consciously chose to observe the situation and yet stay detached. She was so proud of herself for staying uplifted and having an enjoyable experience, rather than being affected by the resentment that surrounded her. The lesson to observe rather than absorb completely changed her life and has allowed her to feel empowered throughout life, rather than constantly being affected by her surroundings.

2 Protecting & Shielding Your Energy

Observe, don’t absorb is the first step, but then how do you ensure you are not absorbing the energy? As I shared with my client’s experience, learning to create energetic boundaries to protect and shield your energy is the next lesson for empaths. 

Do you have a family member or co-worker who you constantly feel judged by? Every interaction you have with this person, you end up walking away feeling insecure about your life choices, and you’re doubting your ability. These types of experiences are a direct example of projecting. The person judging you is actually projecting their own self-judgments onto you and when you take on their energy, it’s amplifying your self-judgment and insecurities. 

In some instances learning who is supportive and who is not can help you understand which people you want to spend your time with, but you can’t always cut everyone out of your life completely. Sometimes you still need to spend time around people who carry a low vibrational energy and it’s important you learn how to protect and shield your energy. 

In this process you are ensuring that someone else’s energy isn’t able to trigger worries, fears, and doubts in your energy. Protecting your energy as an empath can be a practice you do in the moment, when you become aware of someone else’s low vibrational energy & emotions. It can also be a daily practice that you do every morning before you leave your house. 

Remember, as an empath you are constantly picking up on energy from your surroundings, and sometimes you aren’t even aware of the low vibrational energy that you’ve absorbed until after the fact. Creating a habit of shielding your energy is an important tool to help you live a more peaceful life. 

3 Cleansing Your Energy

The next lesson for all empaths is about cleansing your energy. As I mentioned earlier, you are constantly picking up on energy from your environment, the people around you and from the Universe. Also, as a human you are forgetful, we all are, so even when you have a practice to protect your energy it doesn’t mean you are perfect 100% of the time. Learning to cleanse your energy as an empath is extremely important because it’s the practice that supports you to create alignment in your life as you connect with the vibration of your Spirit.

4 Understanding Your Emotions versus Others Emotions

One of the most important lessons I learned in my journey as an empath is understanding the difference between my emotions and the emotions of other people. Often I would catch myself in the middle of the day extremely frustrated or overwhelmingly sad. These emotions would leave me feeling exhausted and unable to complete the day's tasks as I had originally planned. Especially early on in my mentoring business, if I had multiple client calls in a day I ended up taking on the emotions my clients had released during our sessions. 

The moment I began asking myself, “why am I frustrated?”, or “is there a reason as to why I feel sad?” I started to learn the difference between which emotions were actually mine and which emotions I had taken on from other people. When there was no clear reason as to why I was frustrated or sad I was able to release the energy of the emotion much easier, and get myself back into an uplifted state. 

The more you understand your emotions, which situations trigger you to feel a certain way and how to process your emotions, it becomes easier to know when you’ve taken on someone else’s emotions. Emotional healing is one of the main focuses of the Spirit of the Empath 1:1 mentoring program, because it’s important as an empath for you to create stability in your emotions, rather than constantly be swinging between emotional highs and lows. 

These lessons are the beginning of your journey to mastering your empathic abilities so you are able to thrive in life, rather than simply survive each day. Being an empath is a divine gift you carry, and at times it may feel annoying to be as sensitive as you are. When you learn the greatness of your gift and how it leads you with purpose, your life will take on a whole new meaning.
