3 Phases of Your Spiritual Awakening
You find yourself here because you believe you’ve recently experienced a spiritual awakening, but you’re unsure what that really means or where you are meant to go from here. You know there is more to life than struggle and strife, but the shadows of your fear and pain are keeping you feeling exhausted and alone. You crave the light, you wish for positive changes in your life, and you’re ready for more peacefulness.
As a Spiritual Mentor and Intuitive Guide, my mission is to support other empaths, highly sensitive beings and intuitive beings in better understanding their emotions, transmuting their shadow into light, and creating a life of freedom, peace, and purpose.
No matter where you find yourself today, there is something about the term spiritual awakening that has you curious and ready to understand more. In my own personal journey I had a mental and emotional breakdown that I didn’t understand to be my spiritual awakening until much later in life. Even though I had had a spiritual connection and interest previously, I needed my breakdown moment in order to truly awaken myself on my path.
This blog will guide you through the 3 phases of your spiritual awakening that I believe to be key stages of your growth journey.
Phase 1: Unconscious + Hurting
You cannot experience a spiritual awakening without the initial phase of life, which is your unconscious and hurting phase.
This can be described as a time in your life when you are on auto-pilot, living as society told you to, following the steps you think you’re meant to follow to achieve happiness and success. It can also be considered the time when you are in a victim mindset, seeing the world around you as the problem causing all the issues in your life.
You wish to be somewhere else, experiencing a different life, comparing where you are to where others stand, wondering why your life isn’t further along. These thoughts are not inspiring or motivating to create change, instead they are overwhelming and limiting causing you to feel stuck.
The unconscious and hurting phase of your spiritual awakening is the before. You are just moving through life, not fulfilled and feeling purposeless. You can still experience happiness from time to time and you still have desires and goals for your life. But ultimately, you are in a state of belief that life is happening to you and you can’t seem to break free, finding the fulfillment and freedom you desire.
When all of a sudden something drastic and chaotic happens in your life, causing an upheaval of emotions.

Phase 2: Awakened In Darkness
Now you have shifted into the second phase, which is the awakened in darkness phase of your spiritual awakening.
There might be a specific moment that was the catalyst to your awakening, or it could be the build-up of many small moments adding together in a pressurized situation. Whatever the moment is for you specifically, you will find yourself awakened to realize a) you don’t like your life and you want to change; b) you don’t like who you’ve become and you want to change; or c) you no longer want to be a passive player in the game of life and you want to change your perspective.
This phase is a very challenging time in your life because once you are awakened to your previously unconscious view of life you can no longer ignore, avoid and deny things that you had been letting slide for a long time. For many people this awakened in darkness phase can feel like a depressive episode of life, or even a dark night of the soul. You can no longer hide from what wasn’t working and it can feel extremely overwhelming to recognize all the changes your life requires in order to feel more fulfilled and at peace.
The good thing that comes from this phase of your spiritual awakening is you start to take a stand for yourself and you begin to realize that you are indeed an active player in life. You can make different choices and decisions that better your life, including walking away from what’s no longer working.
For many empaths and sensitive souls this phase can be challenging, because of your people pleasing tendencies. You don’t want to hurt someone else, or you feel guilty walking away, or it’s difficult for you to put yourself first. The darkness of your fears, your insecurities, and your worries leave you feeling drained and exhausted, and it can be hard to admit that you need to put yourself first.
No matter how long this phase lasts for you, eventually you find yourself in the place of accepting your spiritual journey and you are ready to create real change.
Phase 3: Healing with Consciousness
This is when you enter the final phase of your spiritual awakening, which is where you begin to heal with consciousness.
Your consciousness is your ability to be aware of a bigger perspective. For instance, the moment you become aware of the negative thoughts circling through your mind, you are now conscious that you could experience different thoughts. Consciousness is not necessarily the shift of those thoughts, it is simply the awareness of the choice. This is where your healing comes into play.
You become conscious that you have been experiencing a negative thought pattern and you choose to release the energy in your body in order to shift your mental perspective.
The same can be seen with your emotional reaction to a situation. You become aware or conscious of the fact that you have become triggered by the situation you are in. Previously you would’ve allowed that emotion to control your entire experience, pulling you into a victim mindset. Now you wish to better understand your emotions, why you feel what you are feeling, how to heal your triggers, and guide yourself forward with peace and calmness. This is healing with consciousness.
On your spiritual journey you have become awakened to 3 main truths: there is always a bigger picture; your shadows are the fears, worries, insecurities and wounds that are energetically stuck in your body that require healing; and that you are a spirit here to evolve and expand through life. Meaning the challenges you experience are a way to learn, heal and grow and the blessings you receive are a way to build appreciation and joy for this life.
Once you are in the healing with consciousness phase of your spiritual awakening you may wonder when the phase ends and you are simply enlightened. After the years pass you will begin to notice that there is no end to this final phase, as this is the point of your awakening, to live with consciousness, constantly expanding your perspective through healing and learning.
As you journey through life you will experience moments of enlightenment, because it’s a state of being not an end result. You will feel that sense of enlightenment when you experience a breakthrough, and clarity finds you on your path. Then you will move through the next moment, become triggered by something different, and find a new shadow that requires your compassion and healing.
