A Retired Sled Dog
Poseidon grew up in one of the worlds most beautiful settings, the Canadian Rocky Mountains, with a loving family that raised him as a sled dog, just like his mom and dad and his litter-mates. He comes from a long line of hardworking, happy sled dogs. Once he hit the young age of 8 and said he wanted a long retirement life as a house pet his owners put him up for adoption.
I had the pleasure of working with Poseidon at the dog sled touring company he came from. The love the owners have towards their dogs really shows, and they are clearly passionate about teaching their guests about the history of dog sledding and the ethical way to enjoy the sport with their canine friends. I will forever be grateful to them for the way they raised and trained Poseidon, and let him flourish into his own being.
Poseidon is 12 years old, and has the energy as if he was 7. We have been best buddies since he was 8, and we plan on having many more adventures together.
In the first month after I adopted Poseidon we went on a road-trip to the Yukon and Alaska for two weeks. This first adventure away from the only home he had known really allowed our bond to grow and build this everlasting relationship we have now. Since this initial adventure he has put his trust in me to show him the world and all the amazing things it has to offer. We have driven to Vancouver Island and adventured through it's forests, and beaches. We have explored our way through the mountains in Alberta and British Columbia. We have adopted another dog into our family, Igor, and adventured with him for the remaining 10 months of his life. Poseidon and I have travelled to Montana, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, and Nevada. We have driven east through Saskatchewan, Manitoba and spent time in Ontario. We have so many memories, and only plan on making more.
